Lakewood homeowners know their post-war ranch neighborhoods sit closer to the foothills than any other major Denver suburb, which means exposure to chinook winds and the weather that comes with it. When a fence takes a hit or starts to lean, you need a crew that understands what those conditions do to wood, vinyl, chain link, and metal over time.

Denver Fence Contractors has served Lakewood and the surrounding Denver area since 2013. We install new fences, repair storm damage, replace posts, hang gates, and handle the work honestly. We're fully insured, and the same crews who answer the phone are the ones who show up and do the job.

Fence Work in Lakewood, Colorado (80226)

Lakewood's housing stock is dominated by single-family homes built in the postwar era, many with long property lines and privacy fence runs that take the full force of the wind coming off the foothills. A fence that's properly set, built to spec, and maintained will hold. One that isn't starts to rack (twist out of square), leans, or loses pickets and rails long before it should.

We work with wood and pressure-treated pine, vinyl and PVC, chain link in galvanized or powder-coated finish, aluminum and ornamental iron. We set posts in concrete, space them correctly, and build with the grain and the weather in mind. Gate hardware matters too. A self-closing, self-latching hinge on a driveway gate or a pool gate isn't a luxury; it's how you keep the gate working and the barrier compliant year after year.

Since 2013, we've installed and repaired fences across Lakewood and the Denver metro. We're members of the American Fence Association and fully insured for general liability and workers' compensation.

How Fence Work Happens in Lakewood

Step 1: Free On-Site Assessment. Call us at (720) 573-2902 or contact us online. We'll schedule a time to walk your property, look at what's there, talk about what you want, and give you a straight estimate. If storm damage brought a section down, we'll document it and give you a damage assessment at no charge to help with your insurance claim.

Step 2: Permits and Utility Locates. Lakewood's building department sets rules on fence height, setback from the property line, and corner visibility. If your property is in a master-planned community, your HOA may have rules on material and color too. Before we dig a single post hole, Colorado law requires a utility locate through 811 to mark gas, electric, and water lines. We handle that and the permit paperwork.

Step 3: Installation or Repair. We build new fence runs with proper post spacing, set posts in concrete, and install rails and pickets or panels to spec. On repair work, we replace rotted posts, tighten loose pickets, rehang gates, and repair or replace hardware. Storm damage gets the same attention: we pull out what's damaged and rebuild it right, not patch it temporarily.

Step 4: Cleanup and Walkthrough. We haul debris, sweep the site, and walk through with you to make sure everything is square, level, and working the way you expected.

Fence pricing in Lakewood depends on material, linear footage, post spacing, site access, and whether you're building new or repairing existing work. Chain link typically starts around $19 per linear foot. Wood and privacy fence runs from $32 per linear foot. Vinyl and PVC fencing starts at $44 per linear foot. Ornamental metal and aluminum run $48 per linear foot or more. Gate installation and repair start at $525, and automatic driveway gates begin around $3,200. Fence repair jobs start at $475, and storm damage assessment is free. The best way to know what a job costs is to call us at (720) 573-2902 for a free estimate. We'll look at your property, talk through the options, and give you a real number.

What causes a fence to lean or rack in Lakewood?
Posts that aren't set deep enough or aren't set in concrete will move over time, especially in wind. Lakewood's exposure to chinook winds can accelerate that movement. Posts that were tamped in soil alone, rather than set in concrete, are more likely to shift. If a fence is racking (twisting out of square), the posts have likely moved. We assess whether the fence can be straightened by resetting posts in concrete or whether sections need to be rebuilt. A leaning fence that's still structurally sound can often be saved. One that's far enough gone gets replaced.
A severe storm brought down a section of my fence. What do I do?
Call us right away at (720) 573-2902. We'll schedule a free damage assessment and document what happened. We can help you gather the information you'll need for an insurance claim. Once you know what your coverage looks like, we can give you a repair or replacement estimate and get the work scheduled. Storm damage repair is one of our core services, and we work with homeowners on the timeline that makes sense.
Do I need a permit for a new fence in Lakewood?
Lakewood's building department requires permits for most new fence installations. Height limits, setback requirements from the property line, and corner visibility rules all apply. If your home is in an HOA community, the architectural standards may also govern material, color, and height. We handle the permit process and coordinate with the building department. Before any digging, Colorado law requires a utility locate through 811 to mark underground lines. We take care of that too.
What's the difference between a fence set in concrete and one that's tamped?
Posts set in concrete are buried in a hole and held in place by concrete poured around them. Posts that are tamped are set in soil that's packed down by hand or machine. Concrete-set posts are far more stable and last longer, especially in wind or where the ground freezes and thaws. Tamped posts can work in stable soil and mild conditions, but they're more likely to move over time. For Lakewood's exposure and wind, we recommend concrete-set posts as standard. The extra cost is small compared to the difference in durability.
My HOA says my fence height or material doesn't meet the architectural standards. What now?
HOA rules on fence material, color, and height vary widely across Lakewood's master-planned communities. If your existing fence doesn't meet the standards, the HOA can require you to modify or replace it. We can work with your HOA to understand what's allowed and help you plan a fence that meets their approval. Sometimes a variance request is possible. Start by getting the specific rules in writing from your HOA, and then call us at (720) 573-2902 to talk through your options.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We carry general liability and workers' compensation insurance. We're happy to provide a certificate of insurance on request for any job.
My fence is leaning but still standing. Do I need to replace it, or can you fix it?
Not every leaning fence needs to come down. If the posts are still sound and the structure isn't cracked or severely damaged, we can often straighten it by resetting the posts in concrete or adding anti-sag bracing to the rails. A repair is always cheaper than a full replacement, and if it will hold for years to come, that's the right call. We'll look at it and give you an honest assessment of whether repair makes sense or whether replacement is the better spend.
